## Ontario synagogue shooting
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says a Belleville Police Service officer was stationed near the Sons of Jacob Synagogue at about 7 p.m. on September 20 when a 29-year-old man armed with a shotgun exchanged gunfire with police. The officer was left in critical but stable condition and the gunman suffered life-threatening injuries. Roughly two dozen worshippers were inside for Yom Kippur services and none were injured.
The SIU is investigating the police use of force, while the broader criminal investigation is examining the shooter's actions and motive. Police have not publicly established that the Jewish congregation was the intended target, so this edition does not present an antisemitic motive as confirmed. The synagogue's president has said he believes the circumstances amount to a hate crime; that is his assessment, not yet a police finding.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard warned on September 21 that it would change military tactics and targets if the United States escalated the conflict.
